MAGIC

Day One February 14th
Happy Valentine’s Day, and our first day in Las Vegas! We arrived in Vegas around 3:00 and took limos to our hotel Harrah’s. One may say it seems stupid for students on a school trip to be taking limos to their hotel but we did it for two reasons:
1.      We are fashion marketing students and it made us all very happy
2.      I crunched the numbers and it was basically the same price (not including tip) as taking the shuttle

So now we are let free on Vegas. For anyone that has never been to Vegas the streets are insane, first you have guys and girls handing out call girl/stripper cards, so you must keep your hands to yourself! Second, just because you can see your destination does not mean it is close by any means, and even after you know this you will still walk, because, well its Vegas and that what you do. Also, whoever designed Vegas failed geometry because the shortest distance between two points is at straight line and that is impossible to do in Vegas, it is for the public’s safety all the foot bridges and detours but if you don’t know where you are going it is quite frustrating.

The finish up day one we ate in an Italian restaurant in the New York New York, it was absolutely delicious and pretty reasonably priced, I spend $20 plus tip, but I did just get water to drink.

Day Two February 15th

Day two was an interesting one but it all worked out for the best in the end, we got a little lost were finding were Magic actually was but we found it eventually so the time we spent looking I’m calling my morning cardio. We went to the Las Vegas Convention center first which held Platform, the shoes exhibit, and women’s wear.

Unfortunately you can’t take pictures while on the floor and it is also a little hard to describe, basically the convention center houses smaller or cheaper brands, for example a lot of the shoes I saw at Platform were what I would call club wear or cheesy prom wear very bright colors, and LOTS and LOTS of crystals, they were a little much. In the women’s wear there was so much it’s hard to describe it was like a mall with every style, color, cut, design imaginable but you couldn’t buy anything! Such a tease for fashion students. One booth I fell in love with along with a few other girls I found out later was called Ryu I had never heard of the brand before but all their clothing followed the up-and-coming trends.

1.      Both regular and muted pastels a lot of gray and light pink
2.      Ultra feminine
3.      Details like rosettes, pearls, lace but not too girly
4.      I can’t speak for the quality or price but those of definitely the type of clothes I would want in my store!!
Mandalay Bay Day Two

Set up
The other shows of magic are held at the Mandalay Bay, nicer location=nicer stuff. We checked out the menswear I can’t really say much about trends I saw because I don’t know much about men’s but just the set up at the Mandalay bay was so much nicer the isles were bigger and the layout was better, the only catch twenty-two is the big brands that we all know basically construct little stores and as students you cannot go in or see the products which was a bummer.

DEAL OF THE DAY!!!

Day Three February 16th

To the convention center for a seminar and then to Mandalay Bay for a few of the shows we hadn’t seen yet. My favorite show was pool, which was not only swimwear surprisingly. They had booths called ‘cash&carry’ and anyone even students could buy at the whole sale price. You can buy a single unit of a lot just depending what you needed! I bought a necklace that was wholesale for $25 but usually retails for $60-$80 definitely best deal of the day.

Then we had lunch in the Mandalay Bay at a restaurant called Ruffles, it had a range of foods but focused on breakfast and was divine.  Then we left magic behind us and went out to enjoy our last day in Vegas.
